Zaragosa

Zaragosa is the 5th largest city in Spain but it is not as famous as a tourist spot.  The best thing about that is there are cool things to see but not so many lines and people.  We had a great afternoon walking around Zaragosa.  The castle behind us is an ancient yet modern building that was used for the residence of many kings and is still used for the center of the Cortes of Aragon today.

Leave it to our family to find the public library that just happens to be housed inside an ancient convent.  The building was beautiful and we went in and sat down for a quick story in the kids section.

The Main Attractions in Zaragosa are the huge Basilica and the Ancient Cathedral. Both of these structures are in a huge plaza that has all sort of modern art and fountains.

Makenna at the age of 4 loves to find the heating vents in our house and sit on them to keep herself warm.  She can often be found sitting on a heating vent with a blanket and a book to trap all the hot air in.  SOOO... It was no surprise that her favorite part of the Basilica was this huge star vent blowing hot air into the building.  It think they would have stood here for hours if I would have let them.

Favorite statue: a saint killing a dragon.

Makenna has a rock collection.  She really does keep track of it and can tell you where she got most of the small rocks she collects.  When she saw this statue all she could think about were her rocks.

Funny story.  At one of the stores we went to here in Zaragosa they were selling a small bag of what looked like rocks.  Steven bought a bag of them and came out to show us all his purchase.  Makenna was so excited!!! (with a small arm pump and an enthusiastic "YES")  Then Steven held up the rocks to his mouth and took a bite out of one the them.  They were candy that looked like rocks.  We were excited to eat them, but honestly I think Makenna was a little disappointed they were candy and not real rocks.  Silly Girl.
