The First Day Of School

As you may be able to imagine there were a lot of nervous kids for this day, But it was great!

Once again we are saying over and over again "we are in the right town for this experience". Our paperwork is not ready yet at the town hall because we have to wait for one more thing but the school was happy to just move forward and let the kids begin.  We are so very grateful for that.  
The school is just right around the corner from our house so it is a short walk each morning to school.  Because Miranda is in the older grades her school day is from 8am-2:30.   The other four kids' school day is from 9am-2pm.  Shorter than at home for sure.  Normal lunch time in Spain is about 2 or 2:30 so the kids don't eat a full lunch at school.  They do bring a mid meal snack (merienda) to school to eat during their break.

They really all did wonderful when we dropped them off.  There were tears from Makenna and tears from Keagan when we dropped them off but that can be normal even when we are in Iowa.
It really was a wonderful experience.  Everyone was so welcoming and overwhelmingly friendly.  The teachers are so excited to have our children (native English speakers) to help their students use English and be able to help ours learn Spanish.

Miranda came home and said she was emotionally and mentally exhausted.  She expressed that being the most popular kid for the day was too exhausting.  Everyone wanted to talk to her and everyone wanted her to talk, even the teachers with introductions and questions.    All in All it was a great day.  Everyone of the kids came home and said they had a great day.
After a few days it will become more normal and we will report back.  I am sure we will have lots of different posts about school.  This is a huge part of why we are here with the children.  We wanted them to have this experience even though it is going to be hard, we are off to a good start.

 The welcome home was a great part as well.  Kaden missed his siblings and was soo excited to pick them up.  He waited with arms wide open for Keagan to walk into his arms.
